Key Information

Our Nursery children are now all settled in. This is such a big step as most of them are leaving their parents/carers for the first time.

Reception children are now in full-time school.  This is so grown-up.  They are at school all day until 3.15pm.  Every day is a new challenge to them, they are learning so much, including how to eat a packed lunch, and put their own shoes on after swimming.  This is a very exciting time.   Every day their reading gets better and better.  There is a bit of homework, but nothing too stressful.

Year One are nearly at the top of the school.  Nursery seems a long time ago.  This is a big year for this age group.  They are all getting ready for their 7+ exams, and they have to start to learn to take school very seriously, and also to get their spellings and timetables right.  At this age, the homework does start to increase, but only enough to make sure that they are ready to go onto their next big school.   In Year One they get to go on really fun outings, including a day at the seaside in the summer term.  Last year, the Year One produced a beautiful mosaic which hangs in the main school hall.

Year Two is where the children are nearly ready to spread their wings and go onto pastures new, but there is just a small matter of the 7+ exams to get through, and once this is all over, there are so many fun outings.  The children go to Diggerland, Legoland and sometimes to the Theatre in the West End.  At the end of the year is the very special Graduation Ceremony, where they perform a fantastic play, watched by all the parents and staff of the school.

“Ex-Golders Hill pupils have excelled themselves this year at their current schools.  At recent prize-givings, there were many prizes awarded to ex-Golders Hill pupils.  It is exciting to know that at least nine ex-pupils have been offered places at Oxbridge for September 2009.

Past and present children have achieved very high standards in the National Chess Competitions this year as well.

We are very proud of all the children that have passed through the school over the years, and we are aware that many friendships made here by our pupils continue on into their adult life, with many returning to the school sharing their fond memories and achievements with staff and pupils.”
