Year 2 at Golders Hill School

Year 2 at Golders Hill School

During the first term, our main focus is to prepare the children for their 7+ entrance examinations.  Our successes show how well our experienced Year 2 team do with this job!  Look at our exam results in the ‘About Us’ tab.

The children follow quite formal literacy and numeracy programmes of study.  In the afternoons, the children get the chance to use their creative and problem-solving skills.

After their exams, the children explore a variety of topics in depth.  We follow the National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2 for our schemes of work.  Handwriting skills are refined and joined writing is introduced.

Year 2 go to Legoland or Diggerland as a treat and also have educational outings to The Florence Nightingale museum and Capel Manor.  The Harry Potter Museum is a great favourite and it boosts the love of independent reading.

In Year 2 at Golders Hill, the children work very hard, polishing their reading skills in one-to-one sessions with a specialist reading teacher.  They grow in confidence and are able to read aloud to an audience (such as whole School Assembly).
